Young trialists

There is increasing need to bolster clinical trial experience for CV fellows and junior faculty, and only limited options to pursue rigorous training and solid experience in clinical trials. Such experience is critical for ongoing studies and ensuring the development of expertise for clinical trial leadership. CVCT is committed to facilitate such endeavors.

AHA FIT & CVCT 2020 Partnership

APPLICATIONS

Jointly endorsed by the AHA FIT Program and The Global CardioVascular Clinical Trialists Forum (CVCT)  , the aim of this program is to assist young investigators in forming their future as CardioVascular Clinical Trialists and give a substantial boost to their career; a vision that both the AHA FIT & CVCT Young Trialist programs have in common.

More about CVCT YIGS:

CVCT YIG was developed with the main goal of forming a new generation of investigators in cardiovascular field.

Young fellows can apply for a Young Investigator grant to attend the annual CVCT forum and most of our young fellow attendees would testify that attending CVCT is a real turning point in their career.

The intimate nature of CVCT provided them with the rare opportunity of having one-on-one conversations with many senior principal investigators/mentors with a long-record of clinical trials, that they would have never had access to otherwise, in big meetings nor at their educational institutions.

Our faculty at the annual forum constitutes 40% of the attendees; it is highest-level senior environment, at no other opportunity will a young fellow find themselves in the company of people from that caliber and have the opportunity to mix with them and learn from their expertise. CVCT gives them this opportunity

Internships

APPLICATIONS

Goal:

The CVCT-PHARMA internship initiative offers young specialists and residents within cardiovascular specialties, to work as part of PHARMA study teams in all phases of clinical development within the cardiovascular, renal and metabolic areas. The focus will be on CV outcome trials, but there may also be opportunities to engage in e.g. mechanistic studies. This training includes all activities related to late phase studies, e.g. protocol development, preparation of charters for study committees and the statistical analysis plan, collaboration with the endpoint office and committee, CRF development, risk-based monitoring and safety surveillance. During study set-up, responding to regulatory and IRB questions may be included. While the study is ongoing, the young faculty will be embedded within the research team and involved in everyday operational activities. Depending on trial timing, the individual may have a role in data interpretation and dissemination as well.

The internship will furthermore give an opportunity to take part in internal scientific and operational training as applicable for the role, including being invited to the CVOT Review Meetings of ongoing large clinical trials in CV, metabolic and renal. Interactions of the YCVCT in the internship should be broad, interacting with the COMPANY representative – but also with the academic faculty in the trials’ oversight committees.

Fellowships

APPLICATIONS

The CVCT Future trialists fellowship initiative enables young fellows and mid career faculty to train, joining  major principal investigators and mentor trialists as a "Steering committee Mentee", joining the steering committee of an ongoing major clinical trial, as a full member, learning about the conduct of the trial, and data collection, analyses and interpretation, and co-authoring with the trial leadership secondary trial manuscripts.

Clinical trials remain underrepresented with respect to older adults, women, and racial/ethnic minority patients. Recent data have highlighted that clinical trialists who are of a certain demographic may be more successful in improving patient diversity. In support of diversity in early-career leaders in clinical trials, and in partnership with Bayer, CVCT is supporting the development of young trialists of racial/ethnic minority background. Increasing early-career minority participation at CVCT is critical to the overall mission to develop high-quality representative clinical trials.

Boehringer Ingelheim Fellowship Program

DVANCED FELLOWSHIP IN CV TRIALS

What problem are we trying to solve?

  • Without a steady supply of talent, innovation in outcome-based cardiovascular drug/device development is at risk.

  • Currently, there are only limited opportunities, if any, for clinical academics to gain expertise in the conduct of these global trials.

Why Boehringer Ingelheim?

  • Boehringer Ingelheim has a strong legacy of cardiovascular outcome trials, including EMPA-REG OUTCOME and Emperor-Reduced trials.

  • As a family-owned company, Boehringer Ingelheim plans in generations.

  • This partnership with CVCT is a unique opportunity to nurture future leaders in cardiovascular medicine.
