The CVCT Future Trialists Academy

Through the ongoing CVCT Future Trialists Fellowship, partnering with major trial sponsors, CVCT has a strong history of training new clinical trialists. Many young researchers have gained hands-on experience in ongoing clinical trials and learned how a trial is designed and executed, how trial results are analyzed, and how to write and publish scientific reports.

In keeping with this vision, we are now expanding this hands-on fellowship program; with the introduction of the CVCT Future Trialist Academy.

The Need: Beyond the Bedside

Most young doctors are trained to be consumers of research-produced knowledge, but few are equipped to be involved in knowledge production. The complexities of modern drug and device development, the ethics of human subject research, and the nuances of biostatistics are often overlooked during medical training. However, for a physician to truly make a significant impact on patient outcomes, they must grasp the « how » and « why » behind the evidence.

The CVCT Future Trialist Academy emerged from the realization that we are grappling with a critical shortage of clinical scientists capable of conducting rigorous and impactful clinical trials. The absence of a dedicated pipeline of talent poses a significant threat to the pace of medical innovation.

To ensure continued improvement in outcomes for all diseases for our patients, we undoubtedly require more research. However, we also need a new generation of physicians who are as adept at designing clinical trials and evaluating evidence as they are at managing patients at the bedside.

Objectives

The CVCT Future Trialist Academy is not just a formal educational series; it’s an investment in the future of healthcare.

  • By mastering trial methodology, our fellows will learn to design protocols that are both scientifically robust and ethically sound.

  • They will also learn to decipher data, ensuring that « statistically significant » translates to « clinically meaningful ».

  • Additionally, they will learn to lead multidisciplinary teams, acting as the vital link between basic scientists, regulatory bodies, and the patient community.

Curriculum

Recognizing the demanding schedules of young clinicians, the course is designed as an intensive, 12-month program, with a high-impact lecture per month.

Faculty

We have curated a faculty of senior, authoritative voices in the field who have designed the trials that currently define our standards of care. These mentors will provide more than just technical instruction; they will also offer their experience and strategic insights that cannot be found in textbooks.
